Nicki Minaj Has Some Choice Words for the BET Awards after Seeing the Show's Ratings

Earlier this year, Nicki Minaj got herself into something of a beef with BET. The official BET website posted an article in February about Cardi B, who became the first female rapper to win Best Rap Album at the Grammys, but it also included a sly dig at Nicki. "Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lacefront," the post read after detailing Cardi's achievement.

In response, both Minaj and Lil Wayne pulled out of the BET Experience concert in the lead-up to the 2019 BET Awards. The ceremony just aired over the weekend (June 23), reportedly garnering the lowest ratings in BET's history, and Nicki made sure she had something to say about it.

Nicki took a shot at BET when she saw the numbers—which at this point could definitely be inaccurate—retweeting an image showing the decline in viewers over the years. "When u go out of ur way to b spiteful & hurt artists who have always supported ur show," she tweeted. "When you fire great ppl who have put their heart & soul into the show... when you’d rather be a messy reality show than a prestigious award show... when ur still being dragged by that lace."

Nicki was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, but she didn't turn up to the ceremony due to the article posted earlier this year. BET posted an apology to the rapper following the post, which they also deleted from their site. She attended the 2018 show and performed her songs "Chun-Li" and "Rich Sex." She has a total of 11 BET Awards to her name.
